Boeing Posts Orders Over $5.8 Bn This Week

Sun Jun 04, 2006 3:10 am

Quote:
Boeing posted orders valued at more than $5.8 billion for a range of single-aisle and widebody planes, marking one of the largest weeks in new airplane orders this year.

In addition to 20 of its widebody 777s, Boeing said it sold nine single-aisle 737s and three 747s. Boeing said the customers asked not to be identified.

The new orders bring Boeing's order book to 347 for the year.

This week's order for 20 twin-engine 777s is a boon to that program, which has grown in fits and bursts during recent years.

Separately, Cathay Pacific Airways said it planned to exercise purchase rights for two 777s, bringing to 18 the number of 777s the airline has ordered in the past six months.

I wonder if those are 744s or 748s?

You can bet your last penny that if they had been 748's Boeing would be shouting it from the rooftops!

I do! They're not shouting it from the rooftops because if they were we'd all be hearing it - quite simple logic really.

Even if the customer's asked Boeing to keep it quiet?

The thought of 748i never crossed my mind, I was thinking they could possibly be 784F.

Not until the customer chooses to announce themselves will they. For now, it could be the first 747-8 passenger order, but Boeing won't announce it until the customer does.

3 planes sounds more like an 'add-on' order of an existing 744 operator rather than a 'fleet renewal' order for 748s.....

Exactly, the number appears really low for a possible pax order.

It will be very interesting to see who has ordered the 20 B777s...

The order is already firmed. Boeing only places the order in the book if it is firm. It is up to the customer for the announcement.

If QR does indeed end up exercising their statement at Paris and orders 20 777-300ERs, what does this mean for their 60-frame A350 order? Now that the A370 looks to start at the 777-200ER in size, would QR return to the 787 to handle it's smaller widebody needs? Even though they gave up their early delivery slots, they could still get 787-8s and 787-9s before even the first model of A370 is available.

As I can't provide a link, I shall provide an opinion instead to keep in line with Froum rules. The 3 x 747 UFO are 744Fs and with this the 744 production slots are all sold out. Next 747 orders will be for the 748 variant.

I also wonder if the 747 order is for the -400F or 8 model. I thought that all of the -400 series production slots were now sold out? They were looking for buyers over the last year and a half to shore up the gap they had between -400 series production ending and -8 series production beginning.

Unlike another manufacturer of commercial aircraft that will go unnamed.

You obviously do not know how Boeing operates. If you realy think that a company as big and diverse as Boeing is realy that desperate about a program that is selling at THREE TIMES the production rate, they you bet that money and I will take it.
