Ground Handling Charges For A 737?

Mon Dec 11, 2006 7:47 am

To all the ground handling buffs:

How much does it cost to ground handle a full 737 at a midsize American or European airport? Should include everything (passengers, bags, aircraft). Just looking for a ballpark figure. Is it $500 or $2000 or even $5000?

Can't find anything by searching the forums.

Thanks

It all depends on your RFB, how much manpower you want, how much ground time, how often you will be at airport X....... many possibilities.....

There is a book out there which gives you some guidelines for charges in general....

It does depend on what you want. But to start with a basic turnround including pax check in, bag loading/unloading, steps, paperwork delivery, and pushback , I would say around 1000USD is a good start.
Extras could be water and toilet service, catering, deicing, engineering, crew handling and transport, cargo handling. landing fees, airport pax service fees, ticket desk. etc.

I used to work for a ground handling company that only did ramp, the airline had their own check-in. Anywho for a 737 the airline was charged around $700 USD per turn around (this was around 2001). That included a crew of 4 rampers, load and unload of course, lav and water service and pushback.

Ballpark around $650-$700 for a reduced rate turn. $1000-$1300 for last minute (one week or less notice) and for unknown carriers. Swissy is absolutely right, really depends on what you want. Also depends on wether or not you have any handler competition.

This is for a 737, obviously higher costs per larger aircraft.

An average FBO that handles 737 charters will charge in the ballpark of $10-15,000 for a turn (all inclusive, check-in, unload-load, board and all GSE).
at least that is the going rate where I work.

At most European airports you'd be hard pressed to come in under $1200 for a regular narrowbody (B737, A320, B757, etc...) turnaround without some serious volume business. A small widebody (B767, A300, etc...) will run around $2000 and a jumbo (B747, A346, etc...) around $3000.

These are all airport charges. Landing fees and pax fees etc. These are in addition to the ground handling charge which goes to the handling agent.

I took a full 737 to make matters simple. But specifically I'm looking for ground handling of a 50-seat ATR42 (60% load factor on average) with everything outsourced (airline does nothing). It's from a startup airline and flies into airports like CGN, HAM, MRS, BCN, SXF once per day.

Thanks

My brother working at BTL said the bill to turn around an A320 was around $1400. Probably on short notice, and he had to handle picking up the pilots, getting the airstairs, unloading the baggage and equipment, fueling, and servicing the lavs.

He thought it seemed high, but it appears to be in the ballpark for normal turnarounds of an aircraft that size.

I work for the most expensive FBO network in the world. We don't even charge that much at IAD

Signature, right? I was looking at that in disbelief. Unless he was talking about including jetfuel, and alot of it, I can't fathom how the handling bill would be over $2000 maximum for a 737..even with short notice.
