Just read this morning on the Bangkok Post that a committee set up by the new government (following the Sept coup) found major problems with the contracts and with the actual construction of the new BKK airport. Seems as though they will close part of it for reparations (some taxiways already have major cracks) for some months, transfering some of the flights back to Don Muang (didn't speficy which).
I must say, if they do this they should also revamp some of the inside. I just arrived in Bangkok two days ago and found the inside of the airport to be really cold, especially because of all the bare concrete. Seems like some political leaders are calling for the whole project to be redone!
Keep an eye for the trip reports (SIN-BKK-CNX-BKK-SIN).

Not just the look - I also noticed that the air conditioning system doesn't work properly. In certain areas you walk from terribly warm sections into cool ones and vice versa one after another.

With all the steel and concrete, it's clearly minimalism, which is apparently in. It's OK. I too thought it looked somewhat cold, not that inviting, but some areas, like the stylish roofing, looked appealing. However, upon departure from BKK the view of the entire terminal area was very impressive.
One thing I did not like was the lack of seating in the landside departure area.
I flew from BKK to SIN on the 22nd.
There was an article in the Bangkok Post a week or so ago about how flights with discount airlines might be moved back to the old airport. There was also a thread on A.net about it. Who knows what will happen?

The airconditioning units are placed on floor level. As most people know, but apparently not the engineers who designed the airport, hot air rises and cold air descends. As a result of this, it is uncomfortably warm in most areas of the terminal.
This and the small, dirty windows are the things that really put me off Suvarnabhumi.

The messy scenes now have been proven which I complained in my last posted message (in Oct), people seemed to disagree and ignoring me. All the waste to this new huge infrastructure.

The domestic departure area is not as bad. The check in area is pretty nice, similar to some German airports.
I'm in the Thai Royal Silk lounge right now and it's packed! It's quite nice, but the seats, although they look quite plush, are as hard as a rock!
Off to my plane now to CNX.

The thing I found interesting about the new BKK airport when I flew through last month is that one goes through security just before heading down to a long hall with gates. Once past security, I did not see bathrooms anywhere. Perhaps I missed them, but I looked for them, and didn't see any. Perhaps they were there, but if so, they certainly aren't obvious.

Isn't this just grand! I fly from DXB to BKK to UTH in three weeks and then back to BKK for a while. Hope all goes well. I'll post an update when I get back.

People are mainly focused on its hardwares, but i think the design of the airport in term of passenger flow and comfort is the worst among all the airport i have been to so far.
Poor management, for example wrong cargo loaded onto the aircraft, and too many decorating stuffs and live performance where the space is not enough at airside, etc..... that was really frustrating me.

Very sad to receive so much negative feed back regarding Thailands NEW gateway 
I was very lucky to fly into MBK on the very last service 27th of September... BA010 which happened to be operated by Qantas as the under the flight number QF010 due to BA aircraft going Unservicable in MBK.... A sad moment...
I then used the NEW and improved BKK airport on the 9th of October which in my opinion was great... Then again I guess I was lucky as I happened to be late to my gate so I didnt get around to testing the nice chairs at the gate
