Flew EVA AIR BKK-TPE-LAX yesterday. All metal on first leg, and plastic knives on second. I mean, what's the point anyway? I am sure you can inflict some serious damage with a metal fork as well, no?

Thats what I've always been thinking, as well as the fact that there are things that aren't banned that are sharper than a knife, I mean as someone else stated, a broken bottle can do a lot of damage.

If I need a weapon, I would definitely choose a fork. The metal knives aren't sharp at all, and sometimes I have difficulties cutting up the bread. Some of the plastic knives can be quite sharp, and can certainly go through some skin.

AA is using metal knives with a short blad (about 2 inches) on international first/business. Interestingly enough, I saw some of them confiscated by security at GRU. Apparently, if you are flying say JFK-GRU-GIG, you need to be re-screened at GRU. Well, some passengers took the knives as souvenirs, and when going through re-screening had to leave their AA knives behind. Pretty funny since security was putting them on a clear plastic case for all to see.

OZ lounge at ICN uses metal knifes along with their service also. This includes sectors to the US

yeah, OZ uses metal knives on their ICN-SFO-ICN flights. They also use metal chopsticks which are sharper than knives.

Olympic Airways uses metal cutlery even in coach.

Actually, OA has both, metal and plastic during meal service. The metal cutlery is a very good quality and makes a great souvenir.  bigthumbsup

Flew Omni, ATA and World on Patriot Express (AMC Charter) flights over the last 18 months. Both Omni (DC-10) and WOA (MD-11) had full metal cutlery on each meal service leg. Don't remember whether TZ (L1011  Smile )did or not...
