AirAsiaX To Buy 50 Airbus A350s Or 50 Boeing 787s

Thu Nov 01, 2007 6:03 am

Hi Guys,

More planes for Air AsiaX on the cards.

This is another close between A350 and B787, looks more towards A350 as Boeing is not yet ready with 787-10 and also Air Asia has an all Airbus fleet and starting Uk routes with A340.

Lax Intl yes i have seen that topic too, if you check the link its Update 3 on that topic, so i guess some fresh developments, also no's have gone frm 25 to 50. Its going to be firm orders rather than options etc etc.

thats the reason i posted it, Also looks like there are going to firm the options they held for 25 X A320

Where the hell in the world are they going to fly soo many planes ???????

Hmm, Tony Fernandez is expanding fast. He has 150 320s on order and wants to convert 25 options into orders, not to mention 15 333s on order.

After EK, QF and BA here is another carrier pushing for the 7810. The carrot is being dangled. I guess Boeing will bite when they are ready to do so and will resist external pressure. This may mean that some carriers opt for the 359, which will be music to JLs ears.

I expect this to be a 350 order with 10 abreast seating in Y. As Tony said, '"It will be just like a bus service," Bus service on an AirBus  Smile

The Asian aviation market is getting brutal. With their low cost base, Air Asia X will be putting pressure on some legacy carriers.

Looks like that the A350 would be a best-seller. Even 7 years before EIS its selling by the tens! I just hope Airbus can live up to its promise and prevent an A380 delay!

A350 will not do 10-abreast. Its 8 or 9. So we should expect 9 abreast with 30" pitch and thin seats!

Since AirAsiaX are most likely to load their aircraft close to max passenages I would expect the payload range capabilities of the A359R to appeal to them. I'd expect a mixed fleet of A359 and A359R.

That's interesting. Since they plan to do 9 abreast in the 333, can't the 350 do 10 abreast with thin seats since it is wider? Or is this marketing hoopla?

A little quote from the article:

"The final choice will be based on capacity, fuel efficiency, but above all, delivery time," he said. "If the choice is between a six- and nine-year delivery time, we will choose the one that can be done in six."

I think that this leans towards the 787-10 as the XWB is already 6 years from EIS and then there's 200 planes already ordered to deliver which could take the best part of 2 years to work through
