Why Sheepskin Seat Covers?

Wed Oct 04, 2000 4:23 am

I was just looking at the proposed cockpit of the 747X on the boeing website and I noticed the seat covers looked like sheepskin. This led me to thinking that just about every cockpit shot I have seen has sheepskin seat covers in them. Is this true? Am I just seeing things? Why are these seat covers evident in so many cockpits? Any explanations?

Sheepskin is a perfect seat cover for airplanes since it doesn't make you sweat as leather or plain cloth might. On long haul flights this is much more comfortable than traditional covers. Sheepskin keeps your back and buttox dry while flying... It's also quite comfortable to sit in...

Its a good seat material to sit on for a long period...it breathes so less sweat, plus its warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather. That's why Air New Zealand used to cover their First and Business Class seats in lambswool, only they stopped doing it becuase too many people said 'why?'
