Great point. To that point (more to a cockpit warning system, though), in the article referenced by VirginFlyer in reply 40 (referenced below):

Any idea why Airbus has been reluctant to do so? Seems a bit odd to me. Bean counter issues, perhaps? And to HAWK21M's point about a mechanical pop-out or the equivalent, the above article mentions a less than 70cm clearance to the ground...that may be an obstacle as well.
