The Dutch pilot union VNV wants the Dutch government to block EKs plans to go double daily with the A380 to AMS. EK flies one daily A380 and one daily 77W at the moment. However, it intends to upgauge the 77W flight to a A380 as of July 2016 (which would mean a capacity increase of 90 seats daily).

Meeanwhile the cabin crew union VNC rejects a plan from HV management which would mean that the cabin crew should remove the garbage from the aircraft at AMS (they already do it at foreign airport).

BRU got quite a bit of new Long Haul rotues in the past years (NRT, BKK, DXB, DOH...) but the US west coast is still a big one that is missing, is 9W, UA or SN planning on starting a route?
I feel like 9W would do really well on a BRU-SFO route as there is a lot of traffic between the Bay Area and India.
Any thoughts?

9W will be ending all its operations at BRU by the end of the winter season, they're definitely not a candidate for such a route. Furthermore, I believe that BRU-SFO trafic is highly seasonnal and very low out of the summer season, so there is little hope to ever see SFO regularly served out of BRU.

Wow didn't know that, that's going to be a big network loss for BRU.

EDIT: Actually after looking online, Jet Airways has not made the decision to leave BRU yet. Can you send me your source?

Well, 9W has started laying off its Belgian staff (about 30 people), I'm not sure if any stronger indication is needed to draw our conclusions. It would be very suprising that the decision to terminate the BRU hub would be reverted at this stage.

Another new airline is due to announce and start services to AMS:

MU is awaiting approval to operate PVG-AMS v.v. with A330 equipment from April 2016 (S16)

Quoting chinaaviationdaily (Reply xx):
China Eastern Airlines (MU) filed an application to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for launching a nonstop international service from its hub Shanghai to Amsterdam, Netherlands next April.

Pending government approval, the Shanghai-based carrier will fly its Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in April 2016, with four flights weekly, according to an announcement released Friday on the website of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

In June 2015, China Eastern had expressed its willingness to launch more long-haul routes to Europe and the U.S. as increased competition among domestic airlines.

The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until Nov. 28, 2015.

I would reckon this will influence KLs PVG capacity? The current 13 weekly 747 full pax/combi scheduled for peak S16 seems a little bit too much should we get an additional 4 weekly 332 on this route as of June 2016.

I missed this totally, but it seems that we have a new (virtual?) airline in The Netherlands. The airline is called Join! Regional. It seems that they want an AOC, but use an AOC from another airline in the mean time. The venture seems legit as the persons behind the venture are people who have aviation knowledge.

According to the Belgian press Ethiopian Cargo would have been permanently granted trafic rights to operate up to 28 flights a week between Belgium and Hong Kong, Dubai and Shanghai. It could operate these flights from BRU or LGG, or from a mix of both. Currently, Ethiopian Cargo is operating such flights from MST thanks to temporary trafic rights but it's also negotiating with the Dutch authorities to obtain permanent trafic rights. If these Dutch trafic rights would be granted, ET could then shop between MST, BRU and LGG to get the best deal from one of these airports. Well done from ET.

This being said, I cannot believe that cargo flights are still governed by these ancient practice of trafic rights grants.

Here is a link in French:

And today it was made official, starting March 26, ET will return to BRU with 12 weekly flights.

Cargolux has increased its profits in 2015 to EUR 49mln (previous year 3mln) and increased cargo carried (in FTK's) with 8.9%. It seems that CV is at least doing better than most of its European rivals.

A little buit late for an overview of the traffic figures of all commercial airports in the BeNeLux for 2015, but it's maybe an idea to see the developments:

The freight and movement ranking follow later but hereby the pax figures of 2015:

2015 Change Previous Ranking
1. AMS 58,245,291 5.94% 1
2. BRU 23,460,018 6.96% 2
3. CRL 6,956,302 8.02% 3
4. EIN 4,373,882 11.44% 4
5. LUX 2,690,000 8.91% 5
6. RTM 1,639,383 - 2.86% 6
7. LGG 299,292 -1.17% 7
8. OST 276,027 9.08% 9
9. ANR 221,155 82.24% 12
10.GRQ 208,669 4.52% 10
11.MST 195,180 -31.03% 8
12.DHR 134,305 -8.77% 11

MST has dropped from 8th largest airport to the 11th place. However the MST data is now based on CBS (the company which collects all statistics in The Netherlands) data instead of the figures from the airport itself (which seem to differ for number of passengers. Antwerp gained the most places in the ranking (and given the fact it's widely used as an alternative to BRU, traffic figures for 2016 won't be bad as well). MST and GRQ will probably "fight" for the 11th place as Den Helder will see even less passengers in 2016 due to the low oil prices (and thus less off shore activity).

TAM is to enter into negotiations with airport authorities to open three non-stop flights between BRU and GIG, GRU and BSB. According to L'Echo, TAM is looking for a new "Northern European hub" with connections to FRA, TXL, TLV and PEK. If the negotiations are successful, flights will begin next year.

L'Echo is usually well-informed, but I can't help but wonder what's wrong with MAD? I can see how it might be difficult to add flights to LHR (TAM only flies from GRU), but MAD shouldn't be that busy, has the connections TAM wants and the local powerhouse is in the same alliance. Unlike BRU.

LUX airport reports record growth for 1st Quarter 2016:

In January 2016, passenger numbers rose 16.5% compared to the same month in 2015.
In February 2016, this growth rose further to 21.3%.
In March the growth rate reached a record of 27.5%.

In March alone this was almost 230,000 passengers, the first time
ever that the 200,000 passenger barrier was passed as early as March.

The total number of passengers passing through the airport in the first quarter 2016 reached
almost 580,000 (+22.2%).

Indeed, but TAM is code-sharing with LH on FRA-GRU for example. So nothing is impossible, especially considering the absence of direct competition in BRU. Is there actually any non-stop flight between BRU and South America? It's not that the demand is high for South America but there are maybe some opportunities to be picked.
