If there is a mild wind from the south, 35R-5 is combination is still used with a tailwind component. Due to performance reasons though, LH departures still may use 17. (Usually LAX, SFO, GRU, MIA departures) It kind of messes up the traffic.

Not good news.

Russia warns citizens off travel to Turkey

In an action that is unlikely to surprise people, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, cancelled a visit to Turkey and warned against Russian tourists visiting Turkey.

"The decision has been taken to cancel the meeting that was planned for tomorrow in Istanbul between the foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey," Mr Lavrov said in televised comments.
He told Russian tourists to avoid Turkey claiming the threat of terrorism there was not less than in Egypt where 224 people were killed by an Isil bomb on board a plane flying over Sharm el-Sheikh.

I guess this way of conducting foreign policy has hurt TK as much as anyone else... No Syria, Libya.. Lots of cancellations to Iraq, Ukraine, Lebanon and now Russia. Not all of it is direct consequence but there is a pattern.

Yes that rumor goes round. Three of ten Skymark A330s are leased out to Air Europa and word has it Wow Air will take another two. That would leave only five for TK.

Mind you, Kokpit.aero was also the site claiming TK would lease 787s and order A380s.

TK converts existing options in fix orders.

10 B737-8 MAX, delivery 2021
20 A321 NEO, delivery 2020-2021

TK also postponed delivery of 17 A321 NEO, old delivery 2017-2018, new delivery 2021-2022.

TK reports to stock market 2 new destinations: Volgograd (Russia) and Siirt (Turkey); depending on aircraft availability.

EU plans to exempt Turks from October 2016 onwards regarding the tourist visa for visits to Europe. That would really give TK a massive boost, if it comes into effect as planned.

Can't really have anything to do with airport since deliveries were to begin in Q1 2017 which is full year before the new airport move which was not to happen till IATA S18 schedule for TK.

Let's see if that happens, but that would also give a huge boost to Pegasus which will be getting first 7 of A320NEOs starting next year.

Would be like a dream come true.

Obtaining a Schengen visa is a very time consuming and the visa you obtain is valid for a very limited time, practically forcing you to apply for a new one each time you go to Europe.

And got forbid your flight gets canceled while you're transiting through Europe!

I am inclined to think this relates to the severe traffic congestion at IST in addition to the realistic completion of the new airport not earlier than 2019.

Turkish Airlines starting late-December 2015 plans to expand service to Dubai, as it begins Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen – Dubai operation. From 24DEC15, the Star Alliance member will operate this route 7 times a week with Boeing 737-800, and increases to 10 weekly from 03MAR16.

TK756 SAW1115 – 1740DXB 738 457
TK758 SAW2150 – 0420+1DXB 738 D

TK759 DXB0520 – 0835SAW 738 D
TK757 DXB1840 – 2155SAW 738 457

TK756/757 operates from 03MAR16.

Some nice Greek island routes would be only a matter of time then and boost the already increasing tourism between the two countries. Tourism chiefs from both sides have been pushing for some kind of visa free agreement for a while now.

This is very good news. It would have been a better news if TK also started a flight for ESB-DXB, but you know it is just a dream for the moment.

TK756 SAW1115 – 1740DXB 738 457
TK757 DXB1840 – 2155SAW 738 457

This is excellent connection for business and O&D passengers. Especially TK757 is good for having meetings day long and then fly back. I hope TK can provide an onward connection to ESB for TK757.

Now the challenge for TK will be to base some WB aircraft at SAW for these flights, as I'm sure in a few years time B738 would not be enough for the demand.
The future is in the skies.

I am sure ESB DXB will be a reality soon, the way ESB is expanding eastwards DXB will be a natural likely direct route to be served. EK would do this by now if they operated narrow body a/c but wide body is not going to be economic for ESB unless they tag on with a third destination. Likely ones could be SAW but that is out of the question now. May be DXB-ESB-ADB-ESB-DXB could be or a third destination like Sofia, Belgrade etc.

With the EU Turkey visa free travel possibility we can see more EU routes to be reinstated from ESB hopefully...Ankara-London as the most emerging I can think of....
