The Night Before Christmas At O'Hare Airport

Sat Dec 16, 2000 7:57 am

Written by: John Carr

T'was the night before Christmas
and all thru O'Hare,
not a creature was napping,
they just didn't dare.

The headsets weren't hung,
they were on people's necks,
and the night sky was lit,
with a thousand flight decks.

The Sups were engaged,
trying to fix Center crap.
and the Area Manager?
That long winter's nap.

When on twenty-two right
there arose such a clatter,
I got up from my scope
to see what was the matter.

And what to my ASR-9 eyes
appeared,
but a seven five seven
about to get speared.

The gap shot was blown,
the controller was freaking,
and the pilot was clueless,
he was still TCAS tweaking.

"Turn him left! Turn him right!"
Was the TRACON's refrain,
Said the dude on the hot-seat,
"This wind is a pain."
But he never broke seat,
No, he never got hot.

"Good rate in, good rate down,
or this final is shot."

And the flightcrew complied,
like them dudes always do,
and them pearls were a twinklin,
straight in on two-two.

What's the point of this story
the reader might ask?
Well, it's really quite simple.
We are up to the task.

So if you're traveling this Christmas,
and get shot through O'Hare,
Sit back and relax,
there's professionals there.

We don't count, we don't brag,
we don't toot our own horn.
We just vector like demons,
It's why we were born.

So in closing I send you
our holiday cheer,
If you need of our service,
We'll always be here.

Merry Christmas to all,
and to all a good night,
may the holiday season,
keep you safe, warm and bright.

RE: The Night Before Christmas At O'Hare Airport

Speaking of O'Hare, how is the weather there, and the Chicago area in general as the Blackhawks just played the Stars tonight (I was there) and got killed 4-1 in Dallas. Anyway, I wonder what will happen to them if the weather is bad enough.
