Manhattan Helicopter Tour: Any Suggestion?

Hi guys,

next week I will be in the US for a business trip and I will spend a couple of days in NYC.

During my stay in NYC I would like to take the opportunity to have a flight tour with one of the helicopter companies that offer this service.

After a quick check on Internet I found at least these options:

Did you ever try it? Do you have any specific advice for me?

The helicopter flights are fun, bring a good camera, you'll have some great opportunities to snap some fantastic photos. The only downside is the short duration of the flights. Helicopters are extremely expensive... not to mention the fact that we helo pilots demand a hefty pay check.  Wink

When I was still a crew chief, we use to do fly-overs down at the Meadowlands, flying over NYC is really awesome.

And in regards to the Intrepid, I believe it is still closed for renovations.  Sad

Being a son of a former copter pilot I know that this beautiful machine it's quite expensive.... but since I'm European now I'm rich by definition when travelling in the US...!!! Big grin

The only problem is the weather: I just saw the forecast and it seems that the next week will be a rainy week in NYC  Angry

Regarding the Intrepid Museum, you are right: it's closed till Nov 2008...  Sad

I did a flight with Liberty Helicopters last summer. We did the one that goes north up the Hudson as far as the GW Bridge then south around the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Governors Island, and back to the heliport.

I would highly reccomend it to anyone visiting NY and having the money to do it.

After looking at the websites, I like the heliny best, only because they use the 407's which are twin engine. The wings air site also has an MD-500 which is twin engine as well, but older than dirt. In terms of safety I would seriously prefer twins. I am sure you would be safe on any of them but I've seen enough single's crash to make me think twice.

The Intrepid is not even in Manhattan, it's over at the Homeport on Staten Island being renovated.

Good point, I was thinking the same...two engines are better than one  Big grin

In terms of rotorcraft, yes. I don't care for the range autoration gives you in a glide. It's more of a "controlled" fall.

Now a single fixed-wing is alright in my book.  Smile
