A Question About Germanwings

Sun May 01, 2011 12:30 pm

Hey all,

I would like about Germanwings, the low-cost "branch" of Lufthansa. I'm about to buy a VIE-CGN-STN ticket, but I can't work out whether they are offering the chance of being redirected on other flights in case of a cancellation of my flight? I'm trying to avoid LCCs because of their unwillingness to implement such policy and I was wondering if Germanwings was different.

Thanks in advance,

Fabrizio - JL418

As far as I know in this regard they are no different than the other LCCs. If you miss the connection either you wait for the next available flight they have to STN or you figure out another way on your own costs.

In case you are not confident to buy / fly Germanwings, consider to fly Air Berlin if looking for a oneway ticket only.
They can route you VIE-DUS-STN, or if you are flexible with your London-airport, VIE-NUE-LGW ot VIE-HAJ-LGW.

Thank you cgnnrw. Since I read they were offering connecting flight I also thought that they were offering some sort of protection in case of massive delays or even cancellation.

Air Berlin was a suitable alternative, also because they offered an all-prop flight via Munster. But the price is quite higher... thank you for your suggestion HT.

If you book via this CGNConnex (or however it is called) I am pretty sure it works as a normal connection, with the usual handling of stranded passengers (reebookings, etc.). They are obliged to do so if they offer it as a service. It is of course different if you book the two flights separately.

Right, if you have bought ONE ticket, incl. transfer, 4U will take care of you and rebook you on the next available flight to STN. In the past 4U even rebooked passengers on LH flights, if all 4U are full or cancelled. Don't worry!

Thanks folks. I have indeed bought everything as a whole ticket, VIE-STN.
