Advice For A "random" MIA-ATL Routing

Wed Oct 21, 2015 4:12 pm

Hi All,

I need to move from Miami area to Atlanta area over 7th/8th November - have you got any suggestions for an unusual routing?

I'm looking for different aircraft types, different airlines - just something a bit unusual! I don't really mind how many stops required!

Thanks in advance for the advice!

There must be nearly an infinite number of possible routings if you have no concern about stops.

For unusual, how about flying around the world? One example:

UA3275 (Operated by Republic Airlines)
Nov 7 14:24-17:40 MIA-EWR Embraer 175

UA110
Nov 7 18:20-06:20+1 EWR-LHR Boeing 767-300

LH901
Nov 8 9:30-12:05 LHR-FRA Airbus A320-200

LH710
Nov 8 13:35-09:05+1 FRA-NRT Airbus A340-400

UA882
Nov 9 17:55-14:25 NRT-ORD Boeing 747-400

AA2319
Nov 9 18:35-21:36 ORD-ATL MD-80

6 aircraft types, with 4 manufacturers represented, 4 airlines, 55 hours. This is a single ticket MIA-LHR-NRT-ORD, then another ticket on AA (Frontier and Delta are other options to increase variety on the final leg). This would cost about $2,000. You could obviously book individual tickets on similar routes to increase the airline variety. Sure, you arrive a day later, but you'll have a good excuse!

Admittedly it would be into FLL but take a look a Silver Airways' intra-Florida routmap. I'm sure you could connect something up there with a DL or WN flight from ATL.

If you wanted to do something really exotic you could always buy a ticket with DL down to somewhere like Grand Cayman or Aruba, and then fly up to Miami on the likes of Cayman Airways, Aruba Airlines or Insel Air.

There's really not that many interesting ways to do this. For nonstops, the best would probably be to fly on Delta's 757-300 from Ft. Lauderdale.

If I was deliberately going out of my way, I'd do something like this:

MIA-DFW 767 or 777
DFW-ORD 787
ORD-ATL MD80

But honestly you might as well just book it as a separate trip.

Quoting rta (Reply 3):
If I was deliberately going out of my way,

Maybe something like
MIA-LAX SA)">AA B777
LAX-BNE QF B747-400ER
BNE-CBR QF B717-200
CBR-MEL QF DHC-8-400Q
MEL-SYD QF A330-200
SYD-JNB QF B747-400
JNB-GRU SA A340-300
GRU-IAH UA B787-8
HOU-ATL DL MD-88

Only 27,917 miles and about three years of flying over featureless ocean. Quite reasonable.
