Idle Fuel Burn Rates
Does anyone know the approximate fuel burn rate at idle and at cruise for any common civil jet engines? Anything like RB211, CF6, CFM56, GE90, etc. would be greatly appriated. If no one knows, does anyone know who I might e-mail at the engine manufacturers for these facts? Thanks for all your help.

Hi! I found something of 2.650-3.000 l/h for the CFM56 in cruise. But normally the rate is given in specific-fuel-consumption, which is calculated with kg/h/kN and data refers to TO --> max thrust (CFM56: 37,5kg/h/kN at 104.5kN). Due to the fact that the thrust depends on so many atmospheric conditions, your question is not that easy to answer...

The GE CF34-3B1 used on the CRJ-200 burns around 400lb/hr/engine at idle.

The GE CF-34-8C1 on the CRJ-700, is that a close amount compared to the 200 for burning idle fuel?

CF6-50 depending on aircraft weight 3,000-3,500 Kg/hr in the cruise, an RB211-524D4 is about 250kg/hr less. Just estimates off the top of my head will have to get back to you for idle.

cYEGsTankers, I am not familiar with the -8C1's, as my airline only flies the CRJ-200's. Sorry!

All CFM56's burns 650-700 lb/hr/engine at sea level with bleeds open.

Found some more, these dates are stated as averages for the aircraft:
Concorde 4x RR/Snecma Olympus 593 (170kN): 25.629l/h
747-400 4x (different engines): 12.500l/h
767-300 2x (different engines): 5.800l/h
757-200 2x (different engines): 4.000l/h
737-400 2x CFM56-3C1: 2.850l/h
A340-300 4x CFM56-5C2: 8.300l/h
A310-300 2x GE CF6-80C2A2: 5.250l/h
A320-200 2x CFM56-5A1: 2.900l/h
I wouldn't trust these dates that much though...

RB-211 between approx 1.5 - 2.2 tonnes/hour depending on aircraft weight, cruise speed etc.

A GE90-92B with a DACII combustor burns 0.302 kg/s of fuel. It produces 0.37g of unburned hydrocarbons, 12.35 g of CO, and 5.92 g of NOx per kg of fuel burned at certification idle (7% of TO thrust). These are the certification numbers and an actual engine will probably do worse. The same engine burns 3.515 kg/s of fuel and produces 0.04 g HC, 0.15 g CO, and 55.9 g NOx per kg of fuel at the takeoff thrust of 426.72 kN.

how much does a gal of jet fuel weigh? Is 8lbs used to formulate weight and balance?

6.7 lbs/gallon
FWWIW PW120A burns 260 @ normal idle and around 160 when feathered.
