Runway Braking Action Reports

Thu Dec 13, 2007 7:03 pm

How do arriving aircraft evaluate the braking action on the runway they've just landed on? What's the criteria?

Listening to BOS tower during the snow storm today, and heard the tower asknig each arriving aircraft "How's the braking action?"

Yeah that document is pretty good. You can tell when you land when you start putting the brakes on what kind of a roll it's going to be. I've skated down many a runway sucking up seat cushion waiting for the anti-skid to stop releasing so we can start slowing down. Sure wish I had some T/R's, those make a big difference. Each different type is a little different so that is why you will hear "Braking action reported good by a 757, 5 minutes ago".
