RE: My New Camera

Wow. Even though it's been cold the past few days, it jumped up to the 80s this afternoon and it looks like someone needs to take a chill pill. Matt, I haven't talked to you since PHL, and even then it was on occasion.

I get the picture. Well...not literally...although (since no glass came on Sunday) I may have some results--photographically speaking--by this weekend. No promises.

Simon, LGA and JFK are definately going to be a blast with the crew. Especially if Chris (yeah, let us know when you're due) shows up.

Wannabe, my father, thank you. The FM forumgoers should be filing for Chapter 11 any time now... Big grin

Not quite sure how (or why) this thread came all the way up again. In any event, what's the harm in a few more cents worth of gratitude and appreciation. Thanks for the comments. But guys...BODY ONLY...sheesh... Smile

Congrats on the new camera Brian!  Big thumbs up

Does anyone happen to know if the battery that comes with the 300D/PowerShot G5 (BP511 I think, I have several for my camera(s)) will work with the 20D?

If so, maybe someday I can stop using my mom's 300D!  Nuts

Brian, did you take the camera already out to shoot some? I want to see results of this wonder machine. Big grin And if you don't have own lenses yet, I'm sure someone will lend you a lense.

Mr. Futt,

Nice shooting stop signs! Don't let a cop catch you... [yes, pun intended].  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

He has an Olympus (Why do I always type "Olympic" first by mistake :P) C-740 I believe. Look for a lens Futt, we are anxious to see your new tool in action.

Futt

Congratulations on your brand new acquisition.

Stop listen cancidas. He apparently is a little bitter and jealous lately.

Way to screw a buddy in the back Cancidas. It's obvious Futt's excited, let him have his moment. No skin off anyone's nose but yours apparently. Someday he might grow into a bitter, jilted whiner. But until you retire, he'll have to wait I suppose.

Futt. Congrats buddy. Use it well. A few tips for the new Canonite:

1.) Expect endless crap from the Nikonoclasts.

2.) Weird error? (Like Err 99) Reboot. (Pop battery out and reinsert.) Or check your lens contacts.

3.) Get a grip. Battery grip that is. You'll look cooler. (Is that POSSIBLE?)

4.) If it's not in your bag, it should be around your neck. ALWAYS use the neckstrap. Make your head useful for something.  Big grin

5.) Get a filter for your lens. A scratched front element is no fun to fix. Remember: $75 filter or $800+ lens? Do the math.

6.) Whenever you and Phil are approached by attractive young girls, just tell them you are a prodigy and taught BigPhil everything he knows. (Chicks dig brainiacs.)

7.) Get a comfortable bag. Don't buy online. It'd be like buying pants online. You have to go in and try on a few to make sure it's comfortable and doesn't pinch or chafe you in all the wrong places.

8.) Once you get a bag, put a button or patch over the logo. Nothing says "Mug Me!" like a heavy, overstuffed Tamarac bag.

9.) Shoot often. Shoot a lot.

10.) Don't listen to Royal. And expect his "Canon in the trashcan" shot in the future...  Smile

Congrats again. Go forth and prosper young grasshopper.

Futt's got his lenses, he's not posting because he's probably clicking the shutter right now...

Kid sent me some pics of his lenses... You better lock up that camera when I come to NYC.

Whoa.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes post-reply #50.

Yeah, I had (and still have) the Olympus C-740. Definately a workhorse; it DID take fantastic shots and served its purpose well. It's been honorably discharged and awaits the transfer of absuive power on behalf of my parents.

Bill. Great minds think alike--my complete kit, as of 7:43PM EST on Sunday, September 26, 2004 is as follows:
  • Canon EOS 20D

  • EF 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS and included hood

  • EF 17-0 f4 L and included hood

  • 2x Sandisk 1GB CF Ultra II

  • 2x BP-511A

  • 2x 77mm SunPak Clear/Protection "UV" Filter

  • Lowepro MiniTrekker

  • The neckstrap is on the camera, but it's a bit abrasive. It's rough.

    Just like Nikon.  Big grin

Everything has and will be bought at B&H. Call it a luxury, but it's the only way to go. However, although my dad is both Jewish and a convincing businessman, he was unable to convince the uberJew behind the counter that the ~$150 in warranties should be thrown in as a freebie. Maybe some Hanukkah gelt will do the trick.

Oh, their candy is INCREDIBLY good. And free.

So, yeah, just walked in the door after a good 7 hours of shooting. Some incredible stuff (at least on the LCD), including some great high-ISO action night shots--NOT light streaks. Few special schemes at JFK, too. Will upload a few tonight and either try to get them hosted or sacrifice some hits and give you guys a sneek peak at what's in the queue...

    Monty: No.

JAGflyer: Contact me through my profile (AIM or email) and I'll shoot you some. Vitaly will charge shipping to send it internationally.  Big grin

Thanks again, guys. This really means a lot. And even though Cancidas is currently in California (not Venus), I do dedicatet the following shots to him (Save Target As--and however long they'll last on PicRack is one of the great unknowns):
