Pre-Screening - Restored Bombers

Wed Apr 17, 2013 2:18 pm

Neither of them were in ideal light but there might be something worth pulling out.

They look compressed. Imgur is a pretty bad image host if you want folks to judge image quality. Try using Flickr and linking to the original image (because Flickr also compresses and sharpens the resized images) or use a host that doesn't mess with files, such as minus.com or abload.de

FWIW, Memphis Belle looks okay, and FiFi looks a bit grainy.

Slight compression, so won't comment on the quality, but both would need better crops. The first needs a tighter one, and the second you've cut the tug and props - either crop tighter or wider than what you have.

Blech, didn't realize that Imgur was a problem host for this type of thing. Re-cropped, re-uploaded.

Crop should be fine for both, but as you mention, not the best light on the B-17, so I see dark (& softness) possibly being issues. Also looks a bit yellow.

Might have to try another image from that sequence then. Is the B-29 okay?

Got a better version of the B-17:

Though I might have to switch it again if the rightmost propeller is a problem motive-wise.

Better, but I would rotate it a bit ccw, and yes, wider on the right to get the whole prop.

I couldn't go any further right on that one- it was as far as the frame went. But I do have the immediately preceding photo in the series:

There are some issues, but better than the previous one. I would work on this one, or the first.

No, but there is a strong chance that I was very close by. I was using a stepladder.
