This is my first trip report....please be gentle
Sorry for not having pics, but my cheap and nasty camera died when i was about to take the first pictures..
Check in at Beijing was speedy and the personel behind the counter were friendly, i made my way to one of the China Airlines lounges that
BA use, i found it rather basic, and definetly not a scratch on the one in
T5.
We boarded the 747-400, and i don't know about you, but after spending a few days away, there is always something reassuring about steping on to your favorite airline!, i was seated in my Club world seat and offered a glass of champagne which was duly welcomed, we were running a few minutes late, so another glass of champagne was consumed (the first one was the dust cutter)
The take off was everything you expect from a Rolls Royce powered 744, and the noise of the engines is like one of Mozarts or Bachs symphonies.
The Lunch service began and the choices were:-
STARTERS
Prawn and Crab salad with green Thai coconut salsa*
Slow Roasted Tomatoes with Mozzarella Cheese
Fresh Seasonal Salad served with Vinaigrette
MAIN
Stir Fried beef with black pepper sauce and Egg Fu noodles*
Chicken Makhanwala with Saffron rice
Penne Pasta with tomato, basil and Mozzerella cheese
Poached salmon salad with sour cream, potato and chive
DESSERT
Butterscotch and chocolate cheesecake*
*my selection*
The Prawn and crab salad was to die for, so succulent and moist, i wish i had the bottle to see if that had any spare, The Stir Fried beef was nice and tender and the blackbean sauce was just right for my liking. Now the cheesecake, all i have to say is....ANGEL BREATH!!!
For my meal i chose a Peter Lehmann Cabernet Merlot 2005 Barrossa Valley, which was fine with the meal (im not a wine expert so can't really say alot)
The flight was pleasant apart from the AVOD system kept overheating (CSD's words) and need to be reset twice i had a little snooze which turned into a about 4hr sleep, i guess i was more tired than i realised.
I took a walk around the cabin and Club was full a sneak back into WTP and
WT and there were i say at 95% full.
i whiled away some more time, finishing some boring work on the laptop and easing the pain was a good supply of Gin and Tonic.
Before landing a light meal was served on which i had:-
Starter
Tomato, rocket, roast red onion and marinated feta cheese salad
Main
Pan seared cod with Colcannon lobster and tomato sauce
Dessert
Fresh Fruit
The Main course was some of the best cooked Cod i have ever tasted, it was succlent juicy and moist and cooked to perfection, to go with the meal i chose a Divinus de Chateau Bonnet Blanc 2007, and that went with the meal nicely
We arrived at Heathrow at 1430, 35 minutes early, The service aboard this was was excellent with a good crew who knew how to look after the passengers.
From getting off the plane to passing through immigration, collecting my bag from the carosel to meeting my girlfriend in the arrivals area took 35 minutes!!!
Final Thoughts:-
BA Club world is very good, ok sometimes things don't goes as planned, or as well as they should, but in my book it still far superior to some other airlines offerings.
Heathrow
T5, all i have to say on that is.....
T5 is working and i would suggest the Heathrow detractors should give
T5 a go, you will be suprised!!!
The average EU official - he has the organising ability of the Italians, the flexibility of the Germans and the modesty of the French. And that's topped up by the imagination of the Belgians, the generosity of the Dutch.
