Here it is, the brand new Brasilia's airport. With the second rwy operating, that boring holding patterns just got over.[350D]

Nice shot, and as a crew member, it was really good they finally done this new runway. As you said, those holding patterns are almost gone. Even now, take a look at the several aircrafts on the taxiways.

And the local spotters just got a new spotting point! =)

Regards, AL - CR.

Impressive. This picture remembered me the Bajaras's one (OK, it's a quite smaller...).
We can clearly see some TAM F-100 and Gol 737. But Transbrasil's 767 still catch more the attention.
I would like to play football on that field at the bottom of the picture!

Nice shot! Looks like LHBP/BUD :)
I think that red is the type of the ground. Check the gardens around the airport. They are red as well. Maybe an other sight of Brasil! :)

Beautifull airport overview. Well done!
Using the runways this way seem inefficiënt to me. You have to taxi a long way after landing and before take-off as well. Why isn't the new runway used for landings?

Wow, awesome shot! Congrats, Dal Mas!

The new runway have been used only for take-off operations because it doesn't have yet ALS, ILS, glide, PAPI and etc.

The terrain is red because its has no grass yet. But it´s growing as we can see on the side of RWY

The red soil is very common in Brazil's high plans. Its a very good soil for agriculture as well.
Nice photo Dal Mas!

Red soil - not grass - is common in many places around the entire world, including in the U.S. As the other comments indicate, it's just coloration of the soil due to different mineral content than in typical black/brown soil. In much of the upper great-lakes region of the U.S., soil this red and redder can be found due to the iron ore deposits. In fact, there are some areas where there's so much iron in the soil that the rivers and streams themselves are bright red. I didn't realize Brasil's high planes had such soil, but it's a great aesthetic regardless of where it is!

Nice photo.

Is the red soil/dirt in any way similar to what makes Mars the "red planet"? Just a thought.

Here's the airport on Google Earth: 15°52'14.65"S, 47°54'53.87"W, showing the begining of the construction of the new runway.
