Opened in 1910, Bader Field began passenger service in 1911. It became the first US municipal airport serving both land and sea planes. The first known usage of the term “air-port” was used in reference to this airfield in 1919 by a local newsman. On the first of December, 1941 the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was founded here. After commercial service left the airport in 1990 the field slowly fell into disrepair and closed for good on the 30th of September, 2006.

An airport filled with history including commercial service. Sadly, it fell into disrepair solely due to corrupt politicians that were rampant in NJ, especially in the Atlantic City area. They were hell bent on shutting the airport down, even after the FAA granted them an ILS system there. I spent many a great days watching Allegheny commuter (Later Eastern Express and Continental Express) Twin Otters along with Dash 7s, Aravas and D0228s going in and out there one after another. A busy airport it was, along with the convenience of being a downtown airport. Despite the FAA mandate to keep the airport open, the corrupt politicians won out. All the promises for redevelopment were nothing but lies and we lost a great airport full of history.
