"Aeroflot 1118" bound for Moscow with a stop in Minsk. Arrived earlier from Dusseldorf. As can be seen, one of the engines is shut down. Flying with only two working engines simply means worse performance, but is obviously possible.

Surely a ferry flight only?! Imagine the trim adjustments needed for this flight. Great shot though.

Great shot but, isn't it risky? I mean, the airplane can obviously flight with only 2/3 engines but what if one of them fail? Still a nice pic

I love this picture because it shows how Russian aircraft might do that with their airplanes. Of course I'd rather see #1 ENG being operational, but it is an all together cool shot!

I think it's weird that they left the cover.. It must be a lot less drag just letting the engine windmill during the flight.. The cover must increase the drag dramatically..

I have a question . Why not just leave the engine uncovered ? as someone else suggested - or better yet - have an aerodynamically shaped cover for this kind of situation ?

Very interstig shot indeed! It is important to cover the engine even if it will crate more drag: oil pressurisation which permit to lubricate all bearings are done by lubrication unit which is driven by the Accessory Gear Box which is driven by N2. When an engine is in a windmilling state, only the N1 will turn (but far away from his usually 3000rpm) and N2 will not follow him or very very few. Therfore, lubrication unit is not working and all bearings are not lubricate whereas N1 bearings turns beacause of the wind : bearings will not appreciate this during long time...

It is a nice shot and shows, that the Tupolev 154 is very tough.
