Air India was first invited to join Star Alliance in 2007. However, a difficult merger with Indian Airlines led to its membership being suspended in August 2011. After renewed talks, AI was once again invited to be part of the alliance and its membership was finally approved on 24th June 2014. Air India officially became a member of Star Alliance on 11th July 2014. Here is an Air India A321 sporting the Star Alliance logo - one of the first few aircraft in the AI fleet to do so.
