On May 18, 2013, N799AL made her final flight from Hickam AFB to Kalaeloa where she will be on permanent display at the Naval Air Museum - Barbers Point. Delivered to SAS in 1968, this aircraft has since seen every corner of the world and flew with a variety of airlines including Hawaiian Airlines. Her flying career might now be over, but the volunteers at the Naval Air Museum intend on keeping her in the best shape possible. Can't beat a retirement in a beautiful place like Hawaii!

Beautiful capture, especially with the brooding tropical sky. How I wished (and hoped) to see this beautiful aircraft preserved! She was the last DC-8 to carry passengers. She graced the skies since the days she rolled off the Santa Monica production line back in 1968, going to SAS as OY-KTE. She had been leased to Thai International, first wearing a hybrid scheme, then in the airline's beautiful purple and gold scheme. I have a model of this aircraft in those colors; she is still wearing registration OY-KTE. ATI took good care of her; the airline's markings of the time deserve to be kept. This aircraft is a joy to behold - thank you for capturing her on film for all to see.
