I never actually liked the idea of the A350. Nor its proposed looks - but after seeing this, I think I have a little soft spot for this one! Beautiful aircraft indeed. Looks very promising. Hope some Japanese airlines can order them.

Talk about being understated... it's almost as if Airbus doesn't want people to know about this new plane. :(

Now look at the future of aviation, she is very slick and I can't wait to see how Airbus will brag about all the new toys they have fitted into this bird!

Nice capture! It is a somewhat 'awkward' looking aircraft isn't it! I don't know why but visually it doesn't quite hang together for me. This time around I think Boeing has the edge in the looks department with the 787!
Anonymous

It looks like the offspring of a 787 and an A330 LOL! :)

Here we go; a sleek rival to the 777!
Anonymous
Not very attractive if I am honest. Looks a bit like a 757. The A333 and A345 are the only good looking planes Airbus has made IMHO. Anyway, looks don't effect the bottom line, looking forward to seeing it fly.
Anonymous
At last! Different in some details from the A330. The cockpit windshield is like that of the Boeing 787 and the winglets are great. I love it. T.B.

I don't know what to make of it. The bland livery sure doesn't help. At first glance it looks like an uglyfied 330.

Not a big fan of the nose. I don't like the engines shape either. Lets see how the 787-9 will compare when it finally rolls out (next year?).
5 star pictures, thanks for this one T.Laurent.

Nice but the nose, looks like 787 on steroids so I gave it 4*
Anonymous

Although I'm a big fan of Airbus I must admit that Boeing always creates the better looking aircraft. I don't think that the A350 is ugly but the 787 is still looking a bit better.
Anonymous

757 is the first thing that came to mind!

Nice picture and nice plane ! Interesting also to read that every comment saying "ugly plane" comes from USA or UK... Don't be angry boys, and play it fair !
Anonymous

Doesn´t it look like a Tupolev on steroids?! Historic pic though!
Anonymous
What a beauty! Much more decent nose than 757/787. And so much more efficient ;-)
Anonymous
I think it looks good. My only criticism would be the shape of the windscreen. The rounded shape doesn't really suit.
Anonymous
I'm a huge Airbus fan, but I am not impressed by the A350. It's almost as unproportional as a Tupolev design.
Anonymous
Interesting, I honestly can't decide whether this bird is beautiful or not ! I must admit it does look daddy of 757. I liked it compared to A330 as A350 length is just perfect and looks like balanced plane unlike A330. I think A340-600 is the best looking plane Airbus ever made. 787 Engines are better but overall A350-900 looks little better compared to 787.

Nice bird, unfortunately airbus didn't do a good painting job to bring it to its full glory.
Anonymous
Here's 'the Netherlands' speaking... ugly she is... the nose looks stolen from a cartoon or lego, though I'm sure it is/will be a great aircraft and I'd love to fly on it. 787 just has better looks. btw UK = Airbus too.
Anonymous
Big engines! are the cockpit windows supposed to be like that?
Anonymous
I disagree with those who say she's ugly. Yes, she has that ugly A380-looking nose, but it has very nice proportions over all. I like it.
Anonymous
Five star for the picture!! Great catch!

But what an ugly face she has!!!

In the end (as a lot of people have said) it is not the looks, but the performance that makes a plane look good for airlines!

Congratulations Laurent!

Interesting looking plane, looks like the 757 on pills. Still she needs a nose job. As long as she will fly it is all that maters.

Finally! Interesting design but why does it look so much like a B757 on steroids? I mean, the front is very reminiscent of the B757; just bigger. I'd think it would resemble the A330 or A340 more. Still, looking forward to seeing it in operation.

It looks good. I don't know why everyone expects a super-efficient aircraft to look like a Ferrari with wings? It is a good looking, super efficient plane. Full stop.

Finally! The First Shot! Love it. The nose is deceiving just like it is on the 787. Different angles tell a different story. Few pictures on Airbus press release confirms it. She looks Good!

Anonymous

Hey France, it's got nothing to do with being from the UK, the front of that plane is ghastly. It's the cockpit window lines more than anything. Tint those windows down and you have a better looking plane immediately, look at the artists renders of it.

Looks like a mix of A330+772+787. I think it looks better than the 787 to an extent
Anonymous

The 787 may look like a glance of the future with its looks, but the A350 looks way sleeker and radical.
Anonymous
I actually think that the A350 is a beautiful aircraft! I'm not usually a fond favorite of most of Airbus' design, but the cockpit windows on this beauty really set her off!! 0_0

I really don't see how this aircraft can be ugly in any way. I agree with the French poster below me! Just check out those winglets and cockpit windows... a thing of beauty. The 787, on the other hand, has absolutely disgusting cockpit windows
Anonymous

Interesting photo. I wouldn't call it ugly, just incredibly boring (now I see why there was no big roll-out). Cockpit and cabin windows are too small.

Honestly I joint the group that say "is an ugly plane" I'm an airbus line lover but with the A350 I don't understand what happened. The line not is... and please don't say this "thing" is similar at A330...
Anonymous

Beautiful plane. Actually looks much better than the renderings unlike the 787 which was kind of a disappointment, which is very unusual. With those wingtips(which should actually be called sharklets), the nose and the zorro mask lol, it's gonna be the most distinctive of the new twins for sure.

Great shot of this long-awaited bird. I wouldn't go so far as to call it ugly, but it's certainly goofy-looking; it looks unfinished somehow. In looking at the little thumbnail image I thought it was a 757 at first!
Anonymous

I always wonder if the nose has a "bubble" on the lower side or not?

Thx for picture, 5*.

However, I think from a different angle and without the pusher the A/C looks better.

I am French and I say that this is an ugly plane. They should also do away with the winglets like the 787.
Anonymous
Definitely does not look like an Airbus! Where is the beauty of the Airbus A340-500/600 and the A330s? Maybe it will take some time to get use to it....Not a big fan of those winglets and the raccoon cockpit windows!!

I was expecting a new Airbus house colour, but they didn't change, by the way I'm wondering why the Trent XWB didn't have the sharktooth exhaust like the one on GEnX. Nice shot!

The A350-900 is a totally gorgeous aircraft! The nose is pretty different from what I thought it would be, but it fits just right. Personally, the proportions are right! The cockpit windows... "cool shades". The sharklets: IS THE BOSS! - Good job Airbus, and looking forward to seeing the A345 XWB in the skies! #ADSG

Anyway, nice shot.

Definitely not a 757. If anything more like a 764. I look forward to seeing it next to an A333 and Triple-7 for size comparison.
Anonymous

If it wasnt for the a350 logos , id have thought this was a brand new 767 . . just dosnt look like an airbus to me . .theres something missing from it . . the pointy nose is gone . . looks like a boeing nose . and looks extremly slim aswell . .but nice looking bird tho

Looks better than the 380 :P
Anonymous

Basically, this is an aircraft that combines the best of both worlds (ie, an aircraft as economical as the A330-300, but with the same range as the A340-300).
Anonymous
The passenger windows look like the tiny windows of a Concorde. Other than that, it's not a bad looking plane - but it's nose does look very 757-ish. And for some reason, the tail looks too small - the vertical stabilizer seems much too tiny for the body size of the plane. Maybe it's just the angle of the photo. Will be nice to see it in airline liveries instead of Airbus.
Anonymous

Does the Zorro mask have a practical use or was it painted that way to make it match the renders? Isn’t that trick a little cheap? Anyway, I think that the nose and the cockpit windows are the only strange features on this airplane. As for the rest of it I don’t think it looks ugly at all. - MX

Great shot!
The spies at Airbus have done a great job at copying Boeing's work. The nose is reminiscent of a 757. Still, I wish Airbus the best of luck. If only they could come with innovations of their own...
Anonymous
@ the comment from Switzerland: The only ugly part of the A350 is the nose section and it has little resemblance to the 757's.

Both Airbus and Boeing are innovative and made big contributions to the development of aerospace industry, that's why they each have ~50% share of the global market for large commercial jets.

This is a jewel in the crown.Much better looking than the 787 8 or 9,and when the stretched A350-1000 comes we see a winner in aviation history because she looks probably even better.
Anonymous
My gosh look at the wing dihedral. You can see the other winglet. Somebody said the vertical tail looks too small. But doesn't modern fly-by-wire make up for that? I know they were experimenting with planes with no tail at all to reduce drag. I'm surprised there hasn't been an airliner like that yet. Why not a V-tail?
Anonymous

@ To all comments concerning Airbus "spies" :
Maybe this nose shape is just the more efficient and both Boeing and Airbus chose it for their new liners ;-)
Anonymous
Were it not for the number of windows, it would look like a regional jet.
Anonymous
Well it doesn't look as innovative as the 787 to me. Except for the nose and winglets it looks like an A330 to me. I don't like it (the nose + winglets).

Not the best looker around but the numbers add up. And nothing but numbers matter to the banks & finance institutions, airline accountants and revenue managers. The rest is just aesthetics but you cant take that to bank or stakeholders. NUMBERS!!!!!
Anonymous

It's a tool. Sure...some consideration is made to form, but they're secondary to function. Airlines don't particularly care what they look like from the outside when they're cruising at altitude saving money. Pax don't care what they look like when they're sitting in a seat saving money. Fuel savings and reliability are the two most important design considerations.

Some here are knocking the 787-8 comparing it to the A-350. But the longer 787-9 and even longer -10 that is coming are so much more stunning in the looks department than the 350. The racked wings and the flex in the 787 wings make it appear light years ahead of any aircraft today in terms of advanced engineering. By the way Airbus , the grass around the paintshop could use a cutting and use some of that white paint to paint the side of that building.

I notice the new RR Trents are almost as big as the Ge-90-115 on the Triple 7. The Ge-90 has made the 777 unbeatable in the long haul market, it will be interesting to see the new version coming out on the new 777X.
