1st company aircraft to wear these colors. Her tail was hanging over the fence. Manufactured October 20, 1967. Delivery date was December 28, 1967. Built as DC-8-61CF, cvt'd to DC-8-71CF in August 1985. Other serials - N8955U with Saturn Awys, EFS Bahamas, Seaboard World Als, Capitol Intl Als, and Trans Intl Als, N862FT with Flying Tigers, UPS, and Transamerica, and also N748UP with Interstate Als and UPS. Sadly, W/O February 8, 2006 at PHL as N748UP with UPS. Landed with fire burning in aft cargo area.

Doesn't the registration number indicate that it was an old Flying Tigers bird? N862FT FT for Flying Tigers the cargo outfit that FedEx bought around this time. Fabulous win for the bankrupt employees of FT.
