This aircraft is on loan from the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola, Florida. The only preserved Brewster Buffalo fighter in the world now under restoration was revealed to the media at Aviation Museum of Central Finland today on the 90th anniversary of the Finnish Air Force. Ltn. Lauri Pekuri was shot down in this fighter over the Soviet territory during the Second World War on 25 June 1942. The wreckage was recovered from a lake in Karelia, Russia in 1998. [Nikon D200]

This picture makes me sad.

It will be a 5 Star after restoration! Can you imagine how beautiful it will look in a year or two! How the Finns managed to use it successfully is still a bit of a mystery to me, but (very specific) military events between 1940-1944 had a huge effect on Finland's history, culture and society in the second half of the 20th. This ugly looking plane was part of the reason Finland was 90+% free during the Cold War, instead of 0% free.
