Supposedly showing a Bf-109E-7 with collapsed landing gear on the airfield of Pitomnik near Stalingrad in 1942/43 where, at that time, the II. Group of JG 3 was operating. Info is not 100% certain and more info is very much welcome. Original negative obtained from a larger collection of WWII photos. Photographer unknown.

That is an interesting collapse. The Bf 109 main wheel struts retracted outward into the wing, yet this one has collapsed inward toward the fuselage. Makes me wonder it something besides a hard landing forced it to collapse (careless ground crew, damaged in battle)? Great picture; I would like to see more from your collection!

I love the 109, but I can definitely see why that narrow gear was the downfall of many new pilots! Awesome upload, thanks.

After ~30,000 saved photos on my HDD that took ~8.7 GBs of space I'm going to try smth other. For example to keep them here. Easier & faster.
