Pan American had such a strong presence in New York in the early 1980's. New mid to long range aircraft were coming online, & they had domestic feed through their acquisition of National Airlines in 1980. Here is 'Clipper Eagle', their 1st Lockheed L-1011-500 when she had only been in service for 1 year. She went on to serve with UAL from 1986-88, & then with DAL as N759DA from 1988-2004. She is currently stored. Scanned from a Kodachrome 64 slide.

I thought DL retired all of their tristars by 2001?

I've double checked, & you could well be correct - it's difficult trying to pin down an exact date from my usual sources. She was parked for quite a while and eventually broken up 2012-13.

I flew on that aircraft in DL colors from PDX-SEL. It was nicely appointed in blue...
