Lee Holden's claim of this being a rare snap is spot on! And he must be assuredly thanked and commended for this. There is nothing on any search engines of this now defunct carrier. It was India's earliest private carrier initiative that began services in 1979 and wound up by 1983. Pushpaka depended for most services on AI and was, I recalled, even advertised as an associate of AI. This was an era of dirigiste socialism and the aviation sector was controlled by the government. Its owner, however, had obliged Indira & the Congress with choppers during their electoral campaigns. One good turn deserves another and he was a singular exception in acquiring a license to operate internationally. Pushpaka's 2-letter code was PE and it operated as PE 405 to Sharjah departing from BOM sometime around 1300ish. Inbound to BOM it returned as PE 406. Services were daily, again, as I recall from flight schedules printed in the Khaleej Times. It was a lucrative service. PE's license was rescinded by the DGCA due to contraband discovered onboard its flight after landing in BOM. That put paid to everything. By the time this snap was taken in '85, both Caravelles (ex-IC) were mothballed and parked near the airforce enclaves towards the 09 end of the rnwy. One routinely caught a quick glimpse of them at the point of rotation.

Super-interesting photo! The old eagle motif on the tail seems to be a vestige from Indian Airlines (1960s scheme). Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of history!
