Great photo, great composition, and I gotta make me jealous... good thing the 380 is ready for Qantas... just in time to replace certain longreach 747 I saw sitting in MNL a few days ago ;)

I love the vortices on the engine strakes, even though there dont seem to be any elsewhere on the airframe. Very nice to see this scheme on an airbourne A380.

Very nice photo!
Btw, does anyone know what those vortexes are? They seem to come from the engines. Looks like streamline testing, but why would you do that on a plane that's already designed? Or is that an unused engine bleed?

We all *know* the physics and aerodynamics going on in this shot. We *know* why those wings create lift causing the plane to rise. But...its SO amazing to see such a massive monster like this fly. Even after you know the science flight remains amazing. Excellent photo!

Those streams you see from near the engines are from the vortex generators fixed to the engine pods. Its peice of metal fixed to the pod at an optimum angle and its job is to generate a vortex. They delay airflow-seperation from the flying surface. It kind of "energizes" the airflow if you will. Depending on the humidity-level of the air these vortices become visible as the streams you see because the water-vapor condenses.

This is probably the best angle i have seen of the 380...and it's close up as well...small price to pay for not seeing all the engines...nice reflection on the underbelly....great shot.
