Quite unique photo. As currently you wont see 747's arriving here. The current runway is 3200m, my guess is it would have been shorter in 1987. The Civial Aviation authority currently doesnt allow regular flights of 747. The reason being that a fully loaded 747 wouldnt be able to abort a take off given the length of the runway. Another interesting fact is, when the runway ends so does the land area and whats next is the sea, with the runway reachin from one end to the other end of the island. The authority does allow 747's to land on per case basis such as arrival of VVIPs and recently on tsunami relief aid.
