This two-seat light aircraft was the first aircraft designed and manufactured by the Republic of Korea Air Force. It was manufactured in 1953 and presented to the public the following year at Gimhae Air Base, Busan. The first president of Korea, Syngman Rhee, named the aircraft Buhwal, meaning "revival" in Korean, in the hope of restoring national pride after the Korean War (1950-1953). The aircraft’s name, written on the body in Chinese characters, was also calligraphed by the president.
