The first SLAF aircraft to see action when these were used in "shock and awe" type missions against shotgun armed communist rebels in 1971. Twelve Jet Provost T.Mk.51s were purchased new in 1959 (Sri Lanka being the launch customer for this variant) and assigned serials CF701-CF712. The T.Mk.51 was purpose-built for light-attack duties, with two .303-in (7.7-mm) machine guns in the walls of the engine air intakes and underwing racks for four rockets (seen here) and eight 25-lb fragmentation bombs.
