Deployed the thrust reversers a little early, perhaps?

I believe it's normal procedure on many Russian airliners to deploy the thrust reversers before touchdown.

No, this is usual on the Il-62.

Quite common with Il-62 aircraft...

Nah, not when the engine is still in idle thrust.

I'd say, it's something that is not well built. On american and european (and other) aircrafts the thrust reversers aren't (and won't) deployed until the main gear touches ground.

Excellent photo by the way...

Your set to trust the pilot -so what - and deploying thrust reversers while airborne was possible on western models until a Lauda-Air767 went down in a South-East Asian Dshungle for T/R reasons when water in the electricity had caused engine one to thrust reverse at 24.700 ft.

It is standard procedure for the Il-62 to deploy thrust reversers before touchdown. It's even in the flight manual.
