The other '707', the Avro 707 was built to test the tailless thick delta wing configuration chosen for the Avro 698, later named the Vulcan, as the low-speed characteristics of such aircraft were not well known at the time. Aerodynamically, the 707A was a one-third scale version of the Vulcan with this second airframe built to speed the development programme. It made its maiden fight on 20th February 1953 and is now on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
