A beautiful day in Albuquerque just seems to match this RB-52B, only the 15th 'BUFF' produced. On the 21st May 1956 she created a storm hotter than the sun over the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific when flying with the Air Research and Development Command. She dropped a 3.75 megatons Mk.15 hydrogen bomb, the first time that a B-52 had been used as a carrier and drop plane for this truly terrifying weapon.

Thank you for the time machine! I was an aircraft maintenance officer at Kirtland AFB when we moved 013 from our flightline to the atomic museum at Sandia Base in 1969 or 1970. The mechanics removed the engines and external fuel tanks, and folded the vertical stabilizer/rudder over, and slowly towed her across the desert. It was sad to see her go, but at least she was saved from the salvage yard! She was a proud old bird, supposedly a sister ship to "balls 8" (0008), the bird that used to carry the X-15. She was the second oldest B-52 still flying when she retired. I wish I knew where our other B-52,RB-52D 620 ended up. She was supposedly the only B-52 that dropped both atomic and hydrogen weapons.
