Having been exposed to the Cold War at an early age I have an appreciation of what the B-36 represented. That a/c was the "Doomsday" Platform and I am thankful it was never used in that capacity. Best usage was in the Strategic Air Command Movie with Jimmy Stewart...

I remember seeing this tail number years ago at the Lockheed Martin plant in Fort Worth, TX. It was in pieces and in dire need of restoration. I knew it had been moved and was in process of being restored but it appears the restoration is complete. Thanks for sharing this shot - I am glad to see her fully restored!!!

Yes, I never knew this model existed until I saw the Movie. I also noticed that this baby has to be the roomiest (non cargo)military jet in the world. You think of a bomber as having most of the area taken up by the bomb bay but the inside of this model had mega ample room for the crew! Like having a 737's amount of room for 11-14 crew!!! That space amazed me considering this was designed in the late 40's!!!

I always have to say I'm a commercial aviation fan and dont pay much attention to the military side of flight but these hybrid jet and prop hybrid's have always interested me! It really takes you back to think what the designers had to go through back then in the late 40's when managing Range, Load, Speed and so on while dealing with heavier materials, no computers and less powerful engines.
