This is a photo of Skyhawk 147734 flown by Lt. J.G. Woody Grover at NAS Dallas. I was 16 years old at the time and wanted to be a pilot but had very bad self-esteem and felt that was beyond my reach. Lt. Grover visited with me and said he was the same way when he was my age and said that I could do it. He was right; Woody this photo is for you where ever you are. Brownie Starflex Camera

Hello Darrell,

I saw your story about taking photos of my Dad's A4D plane. You said that the photo was for my dad, wherever he was, so thought you might be interested to know that he also saw your photo and got a huge kick out of it. Yes, he's still around, retired now from United Airlines, where he worked for about 30 some odd years after getting out of the Navy. He was in the reserves for years and ended up retiring as a captain, and lives in San Diego.

Isn't the internet a cool thing? Thanks again for your beautiful shot and for bringing back happy memories for my dad.

GROVER, WOODBURY L. "WOODY" May 30, 1934 to Nov. 6, 2011 Woody died peacefully at his home in San Diego surrounded by loving family. A Navy Captain, airline pilot Captain, masters track-and-field champion, and accomplished pianist, Woody lived his life as an officer and a gentleman. He was treasured by friends and family for his easygoing demeanor and deadpan sense of humor. Sorry for your loss Holly I will never forget your dad. Darrell
