The last trip I took to the Holuhraun eruption. Here Cessna 206 MYF, recently repainted is taking tourists from Akureyri to view the spectacle, which has by now lost its lavasprout and is a steadily flowing river now, with some boiling and popping of the lava. This was taken from Piper Super Cub TF-ABM and my pilot was Thorkell Ásgeir Jóhannesson.

Great shot. Were they close enough to feel the heat of the eruption?

I wonder what it's like flying over something so hot. We always hear about thermal pockets rising to create turbulence just from warm water or even parking lots, but lava?!
