The distortion is not from flap vortices, but from the hot exhaust air from the engines.

Oh, never mind, I just saw what you were referring to --- the line of discontinuities below the outboard edge of the flap. That's NEAT!!

Excellent optical effect. Distortion doesn't come from the hot exhaust gases because the engines are behind the wings.
