At 8:22pm on 2nd Feb 1998 the ‘Dade-Broward Tornado’ touched down on Miami International Airport damaging twelve aircraft. Nine minutes later the tornado arrived at Opa Locka Airport causing severe structural damage to a hangar, the UPS facility and destroying 140 aircraft including this Super R4D-8 (as registered). This F1/F2 intensity tornado was the main one of four within this storm, another 80 aircraft at North Perry Airport were also affected. Former Marines / Navy Bureau Number was 17122.
