What makes this Photograph excellent? To begin with, the top plane is a Lockheed P-38 Lightning; there isn't enough room here to explain why that is so significant, but trust me, it is very significant.
This particular P-38 is VERY SPECIAL ! It ran out of fuel and crash landed on Greenland many many years ago. Over the years, it became "entombed" in the ice, where it remained, buried under 40 (or so) ft of ice for about 50 years; then, some extremely dedicated,(and in my opinion) noble men dug it out of the ice, restored it to flying condition, named it "Glacier Girl" (what else?) and here we see her flying again! IMHO, this photograph deserves to be hung in a place of honor on the wall in the U.S.A.F. Museum. Long live Glacier Girl!

There are quite a few excelent pictures, every day we say them; but there are just a few outstanding pictures and here is one. The story of 'a friend', the light, the composition. Seven-star!

Stunning, that's what photography should be about : an unique subject, the search of good conditions and a story to tell...
