Great pilots job! Needs a lot of experience and knowledge about wind conditions in the Caribbean sea!

Awesome shot! You caught it at exactly the right moment, with the birds in the water and the boat in the background!

I agree with the photographer...St. Marteen is no longer the king of low, beach approaches. Beautiful setting with a beautiful(in my opinion)twin...i want to try that approach now lol

I have flown thousands of hours in both the 690 and the Aero Commander 500B. This photo brings back many happy memories, but I have never had to do an approach as low as this. Shake hands with the pilot !

Wow! Definitely the new standard for low approach photography.
Anonymous

This photo sure revised the standards of low approaches! I assume the airport has no fences around ? :)

It's the distance to the ground combined with the suggestion of speed that makes this a very special picture. One mistake or misjudgement and the pilot will land in the sea!

This low approach is so much better than at SXM...nice shot!...but where's the runway?

I wonder if theres a sign saying 'beware low aircraft' at that beach. 'Wheres an aircraft? I dont see a...AAARRRGGG'. It must be cordoned off. Great shot too. I wonder if he has 4 reds on the PAPI...if there is one.

I love this one so much because it reminds me the "Matrix" effect. The subject is fixed, but everything around moves (e.g. the boat)... A perfect moment.

"Ô temps suspend ton vol !" disait Lamartine (French Poetry)
"Ô vol suspend le temps !", I would try... :)

Unless there are factors unseen, that pilot should be grounded for pulling a stunt like that.

As a pilot myself, this shot perfectly encapsulates the act of making the best of an imperfect approach. I'm guessing the pilots, staring rigidly forward to the touchdown point rather than trying to crawl out the side windows, wish they had come in a little higher but are very aware of how short the field is - lesser of two evils. More flap, a shade more power and hands ready on the prop pitch lever. Great shot.

As an upcoming pilot........ A true pilot will always have one or more times where him and his plane try to do the dangerous stunts.......EXCELLENT! HEHA!!!

I love Los Roques, i've been there many times, and thats how you are suposse to land when you only have 800 metter of runway, i have also seen some citations land there!

Beautiful aircraft on such a low approach to the runaway over the beach.

Absolutely perfect as it reflects the many small airports in south America. There was no stunt pull by the pilots nor are they trying to show off. It is business as usual. Landing at Los Roques is just one of those moments you have to experience for yourself!! Not the entire world contains airports the size of O'Hare!!!

Wow. That's low. We gotta get more spotters to Los Roques.
Anonymous

Details: in St. Maarten you can see a 747 landing, and you see it right above you!
in Los Roques you CAN'T see a 747 really next to you and you CAN'T see the aircraft landing right next to you because of secutiry reasons...Anyway, thats a great pic and really great approach! =D

Not St Maarten, but an excellent guess. This Turbo Commander is flying so low that almost touches the sand. Excellent picture, BTW.
