Aviation Photo #0805031 De Havilland Canada DHC-6-... Twin Otter - Yeti Airlines

I have enjoyed watching take-offs and landings from this spectacular strip. Take-offs do not seem as scary as the landings in Lukla with the vertical wall at other end Rwy 24 and no second chance for a go-around. The lift-off is just past the half way point on the runway. Runway elevation is 9,200 feet, mountain ahead at about 12,000 feet. All flights clear the mountain en-route to Kathmandu.

The airstrip rivals that on the island of mustique, just south of st. vincent. while mustique is at sea level it has comparable runway length but has high terrain at both ends.
