The first flight ever to land on MIA's new runway 8 reversing thrust on landing during dedication ceremonies for the new runway. The runway (8/26) will officially open on September 4th. The runway is 8,600 feet long, 150 feet wide, and lies 800 feet north of and parallel to runway 9-left/27-right. Groundbreaking for the runway was in April 2001 and the cost of the project was $161,000,000.
