It's an old dock, it was a very clever idea as no real new land needed to be made apart from that taxiway extension at the base of RWY 27 :) lovely airport to go to use, loving the mowed lawn! 5*

It is a man-made piece of land, but not for the runway. The area was originally all a docks area, which was destroyed during WWII. It wasn't until the 1980s that it was decided to regenerate the East London Docklands area, and hence, London City Airport was born, and the runway was built on an old docks area.

Best Airport in London.
Rumours tell, it won the "Admiral Chester Nimitz" Award of the US Navy three times in a stretch for the best copy of an US aircraft carrier.
Okay, just kidding ...

Many shots of LCY have been hitting the most viewed list recently, but this is quite unique. You can see so much of the area around this unique airport. Much of the development on the right foreground looks fairly new.
