A totaly unique aircraft, makes one wonder if they can also add a couple more engine mounts for super-heavy lifiting 747? Maybe to carry something (on top or multple Abrams A1A2's). GlenninRenton

The rareness makes up for the poor quality of the shot ;) Im kidding Im kidding. The quality is fine. It really looks like a B-52 if you just stare at it. I love those engines.

Regular wing. engines are together in packs of two with extra wing tanks. now that would be interesting to see a commercial 744 operating pax. flights.

Very nice shot. Has that thing flown before?? If you notice the engines obviously have a toe in angle probably to help maximize thrust.

Are they drop tanks or housings for refueling drogues? As i think the fuel in those drop tanks (if indeed they are) would last all of 10 seconds....

Rego is reserved for film industry, check out registrations N9748C and N9747P, or get the FAA spin, http://www.awp.faa.gov/affairs/film_facts.htm The film this one's for, who knows? Interesting shot though!

Very strange. This is the Aeroplane on top gear I always look out for it when I watch top gear. I hope they don't smash the plane up for whatever film they are using it for.

Strange. I was wondering if the engine pylon could handle the stress of the two fans on it... What about the side to side movement that I saw on an old tv show that showed the B52 engineering process back in the SAC days. It stated some type of shearing stress came up when two engines shared the same pod and so on. Think the fix had to be added into the airframe at production and not able to be added to a frame of a pax jet.

Great composite image! I like the different and separate perspectives of the two wings with their "pods" - and the unique shadows cast on the ground - like an SU-37's! Very interesting.

Love it, any1 seen the fith gear ep. where they pull this plane with a touareg v10 diesel? So hollywood since they got a range rove next to it... expensive stuff. That plane weighed around 280tons

This plane is a 747 that was devoloped for the James Bond movie Casino Royale, the designer of the mods wanted to create a flying version but no one would give him the money to do so so this is a static, And yes this is the plane seen in top gear. The reason it is at the top gear track is because the producers of the movie turned dunsfold aerodrome into miami airport to save money than shutting down Miami Aiport to film the scenes

After finding a bit more out about this aircraft, I have found out that originally was a 747-200B but with the code 747-236B, and it was Operated by British Airways. It was built in 1980 and had the registration G-BDXJ. Both of the codes N9747P and N88892 are fake and are used entirely for filming. :)
