If there is a livery that should never see the light of day, it is this one.

The new livery is too gaudy and an eye sore tbh. I was expecting something more classy along the lines of Vistara or SQ. But nah, it looks like some Iberia plus some LCC's hybrid mix.

The existing livery was so much better.

The new livery, in no way, showcases the culture of India.

Future brands did a great job with Fiji Airways . I was expecting something along those lines. But nah.

Sad.

I keep asking myself the same. It seems from some angles it is red, and then others it is magenta/purple?

They refer to it as red on the livery overview

I think it is a terrible rendering where in certain lighting the red appears pink/purple. Pretty sure where you see pink it is red.

It's red. Appears pink/purple in different camera angles.

It looks like a blend of Air Belgium tail + Air Berlin belly + Iberia Logo. Not my cup of tea and it won't scream India to me. Let's see how it turns out on an actual aircraft. After many years of such an iconic livery, airlines move on and it is a refreshing one.

This seems like one of those liveries that’s going to look way better in person. It’s hard to get the colors right in renderings.

It’s growing on me as I look at it more. My only real criticism is that it doesn’t look very premium, at least in the renders.

Looks like a livery for a LCC. I'm pretty surprised TATA and Singapore Airlines gave this the green light considering the more classy and refined livery they approved for Vistara.

I guess I’m in two minds on this one: a brilliant concept of keeping and rotating the Jharokha, with a lovely tail design, only to be offset somewhat by the very fat Iberia-like wordmark (would have greatly benefited from a lowercase approach like Vistara) and the somewhat uninspiring positioning of the icon. Only Asiana, Ethiopian and BA can get away with superscripting their icon; for AI it isn’t that effective. An Aegean-like approach, with the icon pointing to the right, would have been better.

However, the livery is bold and I must say brings out all the tradition you’d expect from the country. This will likely be the very last rebrand of an Indian airline in many years, because IndiGo follows an if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it approach with no changes whatsoever for 17 years (and likely the next 17), and none of the others are expected to do much. Still, far more detailed and intricate than the flat colours of 6E or QP or SG or the rest.

Great custom font, though a bit Vivo- or Peugeot-like with the stretching; I like Finnair’s custom font better. However, the Nunito in the body text is not what I’d expect, as it’s far too common and the likes of SAS, Finnair, LH, AF, IB, AA and even easyJet use custom fonts exclusively without any other font. Regardless, a whole new leap ahead in terms of Indian airlines’ typography. We’ll have to wait to see the whole typographic system and brand identity in action, but I remain hopeful. If there’s any airline in India to think beyond the usual, AI has done it. Let’s see what Air India Express does now.

Exactly. Look at the A350 livery overview they posted - it is much darker than how the rendering was shown in the video, which is good because liveries generally look darker in real life than in these promotional pictures where the color hues can get messed up.

Image

I think this should be a pretty accurate representation of what it should actually look like, and I am also liking it the more I look at it. I am happy that the red is truly a deep, dark red because the way it looks in the video displays it as pink-ish which IMO is what contributes to the LCC feeling that some people are talking about. My only critiques is that the titles are just slightly too big (which also contributes to the LCC feeling), and they could have put the purple/aubergine stylized jarokha window design on top of the red engine cowling which I feel would have brought the whole livery together and included a bit more of the premium Vistara aubergine. Also, I'm not sure that the gold needed to be metallic–they could have just gone with the Vistara light tan golden non-metallic accents. Otherwise, I'm starting to love it. Particularly excited to see what it would look like on the 777X.

I'll need to see it IRL (as I believe the kids say), but those renderings aren't doing it any favours. Probably need to see a good hi-res version.

I'm really struggling to understand the patches of white between the red and gold on the belly. Why not just make it all red? IMHO the underneath looks too bitty.

Good! About time. The Delhi superhub decision that was taken to appease MPs rather than make a profit ceded valuable market share in other cities like Bom and Goa to the ME3.

Glad to see Tata bring out routes like SFO-Bom and LHR-GOA

Air India always had the Sanskrit (please correct me if it’s not) titles as part of its logo and livery. It’s a shame it won’t be used as part of this livery.

IMHO when unveiling a new livery, it’s always best to have an actual painted plane as part of the event.. As great as computer graphics are these days, nothing comes close to seeing the actual plane.

We’ve seen the Indian public veto a livery before, given the reception to this new one, will we perhaps see it again?

My favorite part about livery reveals is how without fail there is instant criticism. It's never good enough. Suddenly everyone has a master's degree in design. AI haven't changed much in literally decades so I think any option would have been criticized. But I do agree that this will be better judged on a painted plane than a rendering.

They could have atleast made the white fuselage a glowing sand colored like Etihad’s. Then it would have looked brilliant. This is Iberia with an Indian twist.

Looking at how the recently leased 777s do not have the jharokhas around the windows, it seemed like an indication that the new livery will not have them.
As for this livery at first glance:
The font is not italicized anymore.
No more speed lines.
The logo is not very sophisticated or complex like the previous ones.
Does not seem very Indian, although it has a royal look with the deep red and gold colors.
Does not have the 'wow' factor, as compared to when I saw the AI 747-200 for the first time.

Will have to see this livery in-person a few times.

Well, it's not diabolical, but still veers too far towards the modern day Eurowhite. It doesn't have the sophistication and understated class of Vistara, but also doesn't have the bright charm and Indian sunset vibe that Air India has. We'll see how it looks on a real aircraft, but on the face of it it looks like another distinct livery has been lost.

Its just so generic. It could be an IB cabin interior. The seats themselves are an upgrade but would have been nice to have a Indian pattern run through it.

Here’s my take - I agree the livery looks a bit LCCish. That said, I think it will look fine on a real airplane. If you look at the interiors and the livery, I think TATAs are trying to reboot AI away from looking stereotypically Indian to a global airline that happens to be Indian. One of the biggest complaints of AI’s old livery and interiors (when they had those patterns on the walls) was that everything seemed very 1970’s hippy prints/colors. Jet Airways did the same thing - it was definitely an Indian airline (still remember their J class food offerings) but everything about them was global/business. With this reboot, the average person will just think they are on any airline with a good product (which is a huge win and upgrade for AI). If they counter this with a great uniform design that reflects India and maybe add some Indian art in the plane, they will be fine. Btw why the two J class designs - one blue and one beige - I wonder which was done for the first plane because they didn’t have time and which will be the real interior look.

I think they should have made the title on the side of the plane in that purple color to knock out some of the red color - too much red in my opinion- then for the cabin they should have branded the different cabins such as deep purple seats in business, gold in premium economy and red seats in coach.

I don't hate it, but extremely underwhelming for what was anticipated to be the biggest rebrand in decades. The font is fat, ugly, and reminiscent of LCCs as others have already noted. The jhorka pattern, gold under belly line, and purple are all very disconnected and feel like they belong in different schemes vs one cohesive color palate. The logo itself is uninspiring and a lazy nod to Indian architecture. Could have done MUCH better than this.

If you squint a bit, to me it looks a bit like Iberia and has hues to the short-lived Air Italy. The font is very similar to Iberia. Certainly the case that the concept is better than the reality.
