Because the old Naval Base is on a boat-shaped island, they used to call it "The Unsinkable Aircraft Carrier." I've been there twice; once for an airshow and once for an open house. Beautiful airport and surrounding community.

Thanks for posting this photo of KONZ, this is my base airport. During the winter months, ice fishermen fish right under Runway 35 and 4 approach paths!

It seems that the USN use the same design to build airfields along USA,,there's a place here down in Imperial Valley,CA. with an airfield that looks just like the one on the shot.It's named Holtville(KHOL)[?].
