RAF Kinloss officially closed as an operational airbase on July 26, 2012, after 73 years of RAF presence. The base was then handed over to the British Army and became Kinloss Barracks, with the 39 Engineer Regiment moving in. The runway was permanently closed in 2021, and the military aerodrome traffic zone was withdrawn in January 2022. This makes this image unusual as it is the first landing from a military aircraft since Lossiemouth Typhoons stopped using the base as a relief landing ground in 2021.
